Bugs

On Monday we were toying with a longrange microphone, which we attach to our super new Sony DigiCam camera, when we started to get audio feedback from the wire ducting in our office. I prised open the duct and lo and behold this is what we found:

Now, we have as a landlord a rather difficult individual who suffers from not only being chronically insecure but also very bi-polar in her mentality - and her mood changes can occur within minutes. She has apparently become obsessed that we are talking about her behind her back (actually we are, so her paranoia is well founded) to the extent of bugging our offices to prove the point. The police claimed that they would need much more evidence than just the bug itself - after all she could claim that a previous tenant planted it - so we set up a sting last night.

I put the bug back in its original location and then, with the aid of modern miniature technology, I embedded a bullet camera (very small camera with a fantastic definition which looks similar to this [link]) then we let her know that we thought there might well be some kind of bug in our office, switched on the camera and left for the night.

This morning we've come back and found that indeed she did come into the office after we had left and reclaimed her device. Now all that remains is for us to find new offices (very easy in London now) and file our complaint with the police, complete with infra red video footage.

As they say, watch this space ...

Enjoyed it & marked it for later. Have a small site about Agent Orange it covers non-hodgkin's lymphoma which is obvious, but it happened to me and I wanted to write about it.---Jack---

Crikey, three posts and already you've got comment spam. Unlucky!

Wow, and I thought my landlord was bad...

Very clever thinking that. Did the police give any indication of what the penalty for conviction could be? And what about a civil case for damages: lawyers apparently work on a no-win no-fee basis now...

The bug you have pictured can be found here: http://store.qkits.com/moreinfo.cfm/QK7

And is priced at $7.95!!

(I have no connection with the company)

The police are now 'taking steps' according to a young Detective Constable. They have all the footage, photographic evidence of the bug and a sworn statement validating the footage we passed over them. We're now busy finding a new office ...

How was the bug powered ?

It had a normal 9v battery clipped on the back, the whole device was a bit smaller than the battery.

OK on the battery. With a small one like that I think it would need a new battery every couple of days so your landlord will have been having to regular visits to your office.

I've gotta say a doubt this post is real !

The kit pictured is straight from the people that sell the kit, and the kit works on 3volts not 9 !

Maybe you had one of these
http://store.qkits.com/moreinfo.cfm/QK18

But I'd have thought a cameraman could take the photo himself ???

That's a very odd thing to say. I used those images because it was quicker and a lot more convenient than taking shots, downloading them to the computer and then uploading to blogger.com. Why would I need to bother doing that when I can just source an image of the similar transmitter through Google images?

Re the battery, a 9v battery will last for a number of months - this is one of those rectangular batteries with a contact clip at the end.

Regarding progress on this case she is now "helping us with our enquiries", according the police station. I still have heard nothing at all from the Det.Con who was dealing with the case.

Well good to see paranoia does not go unrewareded. Yikes this is nuts...interesting piece of kit it has to be said.

Will be interesting to see what the Pols make of the entire little scenario.
